lisbon stories :: the flea market + graça + mouraria

May 3, 2012 filed under: fotografias de lisboa, hello twiggs personal, lisbon stories, portfolio

(prepare yourself for some really bright pictures from a perfect sunny day!)

oh i miss sunny days in lisbon! i miss the bright blue sky, no wind, no rain, just one of those warm casual days in which i leave the house to wander and take some pictures. i really miss these days. now it’s like winter all over again, with raincoats, umbrellas, boots and wool cardigans. in order to forget about this bad weather, i often indulge myself with pictures of once a spring-ish lisbon, sunny mornings and warm temperatures! so today i decided to share my bit of indulgence, which includes a nice walk for saturday mornings – the flea market, graça, mouraria and then downtown! don’t forget to ride the 28 yellow tram to the flea market, and then just walk up and down the narrow streets, and don’t forget to look up. though this ain’t new york, i promise that roofs and windows are really charming in lisbon!

i was fascinated by the sun in these yellow leaves. it was such a bright sunny saturday, perfect to wander around the huge flea market, among the vintage finds, tiles, keys, cameras, clothing, luggage and so much more. then i crossed this small garden right after the market, where you can have this magnificent view of the river, passed the panteão (which is this beautiful monument below), up to graça and then mouraria.

as you know, i deeply love lisbon and finding these random messages on walls is so interesting! the first message has amália‘s face stamped and for those who don’t speak the language, the second one says “i love you, love of my life!”, yes, sweet, right? i passed this wall a few weeks later and it was already covered in white paint! below we have the work of camilla watson, photographer that has lived and worked with those living in mouraria, taking them pictures and having them “printed” on the streets. mouraria is one of the most typical quarters in lisbon and this project was to give some exposure to those who have lived there all their lives.

after these i might need to go out again for some pictures, i miss doing that again, just for the pleasure of it. how hard it is to keep with a schedule of going out a day a week for that? remember me talking about that? it’s so hard and before you notice, a month or two has passed and you haven’t kept your promise. there is always something coming up. oh and by the way, something will come up this saturday – a wedding! i can’t wait! if you enjoy my style, you can also sneak-peek my professional lifestyle work here! and who knows? schedule a photo session? have a great thursday my friends and can we wish all together for some warmer temperatures, no rain and wind… like spring, for example!

Lovely blogpost, Claudia. I was in Lisbon last weekend with my husband, and although the weather was rather disappointing we had a lovely time as usual. My husband always likes to visit the fleamarket when he’s in Lisbon, so we were there on Saturday morning – maybe we passed you by!

oh yes sheila, the weather has been so bad lately, not lisbon like weather at all!! we usually have such sunny days and now we’re dealing with this over a month! but nevertheless i’m really glad that you have spent a lovely time here in lisbon! and that could have been possible if you had been here three months ago, i think these were taken back in march or something!!! i think i need to go there again!

Ahh! I love these photos & my boyfriend would just die if he saw the first photo. We are big camera collectors and love playing with them. Taking photos around town and of the day are the best…
