lisbon stories :: a mesa do lx

May 10, 2012 filed under: hello twiggs personal, lisbon stories

hello there friends, how are you doing today? well, i don’t know where you are, but as announced we started the week with rain, strong winds and what looked like winter temperatures to a hot summer day today! but if you ask me, though i find this change a bit too harsh, well i am loving the sunny days, the hot weather, the birds singing all day long, the windows opened and the brighter days! enough with gloomy days, rain and wind. well, and as you know one of the things i do love to do is eating. i might not be a genius when it comes to cooking, but you should see me eating! i eat like a lady of course, but i do eat a lot. and if i’m in a good mood, if i’m relaxed, well, then i won’t be much of a talker, because i’m entertained enjoying my food. and one of these days i enjoyed not only the food, but the place i found on a sunday afternoon. we woke up at the usual time, which is early because of mr kobe, and we had a good breakfast, almost like brunch. but then the day was good to go out and we wanted to have some lunch. so we went to the lx factory looking for a place to eat. and we found a really good one!

a mesa do lx is an italian restaurant with a very different concept. for those who don’t speak the language “a mesa” means “the table”, because the whole restaurant has that… a table… a huge table. and yes, only one! and it’s really interesting because everyone is sitting on the same table together, like a huge family. if i’m correct the table serves 50! so it’s also cozy at the same time! the table itself and the chairs are clearly old and secondhand, which adds even more charm to the whole mood! every detail is old and antique…

the other interesting aspect is about the food itself. the pizzas are named after lisbon’s neighbourhoods and you can also make your own pizza! other than that, the pizza comes cut in small squares and with about 10 toothpicks, so that you can eat your pizza, but also taste your friends’ for example. i strongly recommend this place, though it’s usually full on the weekends, so you better arrive early, or prepare yourself to wait for a while. but if you’re not starving, the wait is so worth it! and then you can always eat dessert “next door” on landeau chocolate! you can explore their menu and other information on their website and facebook!

This seems to be such an amazing place!!! I really have to try.
Just for curiosity, have you watched the special No Reservations Lisbon? I kept on saying all the time: this is the kind of places Twiggs would photograph, she always discovers the best places in Lisbon :)
