hello there my friends, how are you doing? i have been quite a busy bee this morning and afternoon, taking care of all the orders that arrived during the holiday break and also this week! asides that i’ve doing some changes on all three shops, so that it has a more cohesive style and buyers may feel a little bit more oriented! more on that later! so, today i wanted to share with you the place that welcomed us for two weeks. when my family moved to the united states, they moved to a small village called north tarrytown. they always lived there, but the name of the village has actually changed in 1996. due to the well-known story of washington irving “the legend of sleepy hollow”, the population agreed that they should be called sleepy hollow, instead of north tarrytown.
sleepy hollow is a charming small village with less than 10 thousand people… and we stayed in an even more charming area called philipse manor, where good looking houses, each one with its different style, go side by side with the hudson river.
every day we would wake up, have breakfast with everyone in the house, and then someone would drop us on the philipse manor train station, a 5 minute-drive to the station and about 30 minutes by train to the city. then we would be in the city all day long, get back later in the afternoon, and would have dinner again together. and yes, always a very portuguese dinner, with good red wine, good food, delicious cakes and oporto wine… very old oporto wine!
sleepy hollow has also a very well-known cemetery, also due to the legend of the headless horseman (the legend of sleepy hollow), where washington irving (the author of the book), elizabeth arden, andrew carnegie, walter p. chrysler and others are buried. the legend itself is a symbol for many public services, like you can see on the image below.
we spent christmas here and then two weeks later we moved to brooklyn to get the neighbourhood feeling and to be closer to the city, so that we could go out to dinner, drink something… nevertheless, sleepy hollow is in my heart, because of all the good moments i have spent there! see you tomorrow friends!
