yes, these two are my favorite! but first let me explain everything! as i told you yesterday, brooklyn amazed us a lot, on several aspects! for its friendly & young mood, for the restaurants, for the shops… though our main goal in renting a place for a few days was indeed going out for dinner in the city and grab a drink, we ended up staying in brooklyn for dinner every single day! the offer was too good to take the train and go some place else! and we had our friends there, we walked everywhere we needed, so why bother going anywhere else? but as i also told you there so many places that we stood in our hearts, and as i’m still a very shy photographer, i didn’t ask for permission to take pictures as much as i wanted to. but i was brave enough to ask in two… mast brothers & moon river chattel.
this first one was a total surprise! i don’t remember exactly what was outside, asides from a huge chalkboard available to take home and some vintage industrial stools, but we did go inside. and as soon as i walked in, i saw my favorite jars, the mason ones! and oh the price! i brought a large jar for less than $2! oh yes, i did!
isn’t this a magnificent store? i loved it so much i had to share my enthusiasm with the owner, christine. she was delighted to know it and was so friendly and nice! this is the perfect store where you can buy everyone a gift, because you’ll always find something interesting for someone in particular. you could find books about so many things, handmade toys, vintage jars and baskets, linens for your home, vintage bottles… oh so many things, and so little room left on my baggage. so only a mason jar come with me.
and then inspired by the maker’s project by jennifer causey, i knew i had to visit the mast brothers. what can i say? they make chocolate for goodness sake!
i don’t remember all flavours available for tasting on this table, but i remember one in particular, which was this one with the brown chevron cover, it was vanilla & smoke. and now you ask “smoke???” and i answer “yes, smoke and i can guarantee you that it was smoke and nothing tasted funny!” it tasted like smoked ham with vanilla, and even if this sounds really strange to you and really too much for you, and though i know that taste is a very particular thing, there was nothing strange about this chocolate. first came vanilla and then came the light flavour of smoked ham, but in chocolate. and though i love chocolate, i have tasted chocolate flavours in strange products like beer, and hated it. here there was nothing to hate! and here you go, this ends the main things i wanted to share about new york, though i have so many pictures left to share, i will probably come back to these stories later!
p.s. have you noticed that the images are larger? thinking about your pleasure only, my lovelies!
