hi there! how are you guys? having fun? today i will share what i wanted to share last monday. and why didn’t i share? because mr laptop just decided to drive me crazy this week, go figure! internet cable chewed last week… this week is the laptop making me a very nervous girl… i think this calls for a vacation break. but before that, i wanted to share a few pictures i took this last weekend! it was my nephews’ one-year birthday and his parents also had him baptized in the same day, so we had a little family get together party, and i took all my chances to improve as a photographer. the luck was that instead of just shooting with one camera, i had also a canon 5d with a fabulous 70mm-200mm canon lens to go with it. the pros… whoop-whoop, i was “the” photographer that day, i needed no fancy clutches, nor jewelry so that people would look at me… it was great to test a new camera + the lens + an external flash. the cons… boy that thing is heavy! there must be other solutions there, because if i am whilling to make this for a living, well, there will be no need for gymn, but i need to practice. my arm was acking the following day!
well, what can i say? that life is a journey and so is my path as a photographer? yes, i might say that. what worked really well? i don’t know, i think i loved the colours, the bright sunny day… and the fact that i did this kind of photography, in which i never asked for anything from those photographed. i just stood there, with my friends & family and took photos of what i thought could look good. hopping from one side to another… saying hello… a bit of conversation here & there, and some more photos.
when we went inside to the church i had a few doubts. i had never worked with that camera + lens + external flash before… never had tried to take pictures inside of a building, and a church is naturally not that bright inside… but did what every good photographer would tell me to do, take a million pictures. the priest was kind of funny (or not!) because in the end i was near him and he asked “so how is the photographer going on? are the pictures looking good? you seem a bit nervous!” i immediately thought to myself “oook, what was that? i don’t even know if i believe in the same as you do, but that’s not helping, ok?!”
what could have worked better? testing the camera the day before, getting familiar with it would have been much much better. i am still exploring my camera with my 50mm lens… so having a different package to work with on such occasion was kind of hard, and it was really heavy… silly me, i had only one yogurt for breakfast! it was a very bright sunny day, which is not that flattering as we know, and i have noticed that i like bright images, with bright and clear colours. i think it’s a me thing. but even so, some were difficult to edit because the sun was too harsh! oh well, always learning… and it’s a natural thing! so, i am now going… and will be back for more {wedding photography} interviews! stay tuned! i want to know if you know the following guest!
p.s. the lady holding the baby is my mother-in-law… and the baby is my nephew. the sweet girl is the daughter of a couple we are friends with, and she is probably my favourite girl to take pictures of. ain’t she beautiful & sweet?

I like the photographs you took in spite of all the issues you mentioned. Maybe you have to train with weights so you won’t have aches afterwards ?! ;)
Bright sun light is always difficult when we want to take pictures (not that I’m a photo expert!).
But I like the candid style.
And you are right that little girl is beautiful and takes great pictures. Loved that she had pink nails! :)
I want to be a child again!

Good for you and Congrats Claudia! I’m about to take the plunge with the 70-200 and am also worried about the weight. But, I know it will become easier over time. Keep shooting…I love your candid shots here. :)
