Travel Stories :: from Lisbon to Toulouse

Para quem me vai acompanhando pelo Instagram sabe que em Abril fizemos uma pausa de uma semana e meia e fomos passear. Há anos que tinha uma ideia romântica de fazer uma road-trip pelo Sul de França e tudo por causa deste filme. Estando nós na Primavera ainda mais vontade tinha, mas era preciso convencer alguém cá em casa a começar uma viagem com um destino a mais de 1800km de distância (acabámos por estender a viagem até ao Mónaco). No entanto, lá fomos e ao contrário do que fizemos anteriormente nesta viagem, tendo em conta o nº de dias que tínhamos e os sítios onde queríamos mesmo parar, planeámos tudo, hotéis, paragens, etc. Deixámos ainda alguma margem para mudança de ideias, mas a estrutura dos dias estava definida. E no domingo de Páscoa lá começámos a nossa viagem!

De Lisboa rumámos a Valladolid para dormir, de Valladolid seguimos para San Sebastián onde almoçámos e a paragem seguinte foi já em França – Toulouse, onde chegámos ao fim da tarde. Pelo caminho e até Toulouse encontrámos imenso trânsito na auto-estrada, o que nos obrigou (e que bom que foi) a seguir pelas estradas secundárias e a encontrar sítios muito bonitos!

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you probably know that we took a week and a half back in April and ventured ourselves on a road-trip in the South of France. I had this trip on my mind for ages and all because of this movie! Of course, that everything would be even more romantic and beautiful if we traveled during Spring, which was exactly the case! But first I had to convince someone to drive all the way to Monaco… because you know, if you driving all the way to Provence… Monaco is just around the corner, so why not? It’s Monaco after all! So we went and though we’re not that into planning every little detail, we spent a whole day planning our trip to fit into those number of days, to make sure we could stop in those places we really wanted to see. There was some margin left, but still we had a pretty tight schedule! But better tight and make the whole thing a fun adventure than not going anywhere!

We left Lisbon towards Valladolid for the first night, in the morning we drove to San Sebastián for lunch and kept going for our first official stop – Toulouse! On our way to Toulouse there was a lot of traffic on the highway, so we had to take secondary roads, which ended up being the best thing ever… because you know… South of France and small villages!

Toulouse é conhecida como La Ville Rose e tem crescido imenso nos últimos anos. Tudo o que lia demonstrava ser uma cidade de imenso interesse cultural e arquitetónico, além de ter imensa vida. Apesar de não termos tido oportunidade de passar muito tempo em cada sítio, deu para passear bastante a pé, conhecer um bocadinho, comer muito bem e tirar muitas fotografias bonitas.

No dia seguinte acordei bem cedo e fui dar um passeio pela cidade. Vi a cidade a acordar, o frenesi das pessoas a irem para o trabalho, os cafés a abrirem… Gostei mesmo da cidade e acho que deve ser mesmo um sítio simpático para se viver.

It doesn’t get much better! I had read a few things about Toulouse, and was very eager to wander around. It’s known as the Pink City, due to the colour of the buildings and it seems to be a city where there’s a lot going on right now, asides of being a very nice place to live in and so on and so on! Well, it seemed like a nice central place to begin with in the South of France! Though we didn’t have the chance of really get to know each place we visited in detail, there was time for beautiful pictures, a lot of walking around, good food and good wine!

On the following day I woke up early and went for a walk on my own in the city. I love to be on my own and wander around the streets, watching the city wake up, people going to work, cafes opening their doors… I really liked Toulouse, it seems such a pretty place to live!

Neste mesmo dia deixámos Toulouse e fomos almoçar a Mirepoix, antes de seguirmos para Aix-en-Provence onde iríamos dormir. Mirepoix era-me completamente desconhecido, não fosse uma amiga ter-me recomendado uma paragem nesta vila pequena e a coincidência foi que, ainda em Toulouse, enquanto procurava mais informação sobre Mirepoix, perceber que a minha amiga Kerry também tinha estado por ali a passear uns meses antes! Mirepoix é uma vila pequenina, cujo ponto principal é a praça central com estes edifícios bonitos e tão distintos!

On this day our final destination was Aix-en-Provence, but we stopped in Mirepoix for lunch, and it was such a charming little village. I had never heard of this town, but a friend recommended it and as a coincidence, while I was still in Toulouse and going through the web looking for tips on Mirepoix, realised that my good friend Kerry had also been there a few months before. Mirepoix is in fact a small village, and its central point is this main square with these quirky buildings! How cute are these?
