After saying goodbye to Viana do Castelo, and after a short break in Caminha, I drove to Vila Nova de Cerveira where I was purely delighted with this small town colours. I had seen on the news that they were having a celebration around crochet, which was covering the whole place. You could see colourful crochet pieces covering trees, balconies, benches… everything made by the town people, who gathered for this.

The movement called “Crochet goes outdoors” is about promoting the town as an “Arts Town”, and all the population was invited to participate. So some learned how to crochet, others taught. And this way, the town was so much prettier, more colourful and I can bet that its people felt closer than ever.

I walked everywhere, photographed details and more details, but asides this crochet invasion and the umbrellas installation, I was also fascinated by the Minho River which separated Portugal (and the town) from Spain and had a beautiful promenade. People were walking with their families, children were playing, friends were gathered on the grass… there was so much life on this small town. It’s indeed a beautiful place for a walk and I will surely come back some day in the future!
And from this town, I drove to Ponte de Lima, which is also gorgeous, so stay tuned for next week for more country stories!
