Lisboa analógica :: Lisbon in film

July 2, 2014 filed under: film photography

Whoever follows me for a while knows my deep love for film photography and how much I like to experiment different things. Sometimes the results are not that interesting or even amazing, but then again, whoever knows the thrill of a heavy film camera, also knows what I’m talking about. Shooting in film is always a mix of anxiety and surprise. But also a great frustration comes along, because things sometimes don’t turn out how we pictured them. But shooting like this is also good… it’s the antithesis of “i want it this for yesterday”.

I always buy boxes of 5 rolls of Kodak Portra here and this time I went on and tried the Portra 400. I like it a lot, but I think my heart still belongs to Portra 160. There’s something different, I don’t know how to explain it, but I prefer its tones. Though the 400 is also pretty. And when my Yashica decides to behave and focus exactly like I’m seeing, the results are quite pretty.

Just like these summer, fall and spring days. These are from several seasons of the past year, strolling around downtown Lisbon, Alfama and a ride on one of the yellow trams, that fortunately are still around on my neighbourhood. Claudia00098 Claudia00099 Claudia00100 Claudia00101 Claudia00102

To the list of “sweet-things-I-really-need-to-buy” I’ll add another film camera. It’s curious how things evolve, the things we like to do and the things we like period. Our own standards change and for me, though my Yashica is truly amazing, sometimes it doesn’t deliver what I expect. It’s normal, she lives in a different era, in which there were different demands. But though keeping it close to my heart, I’ll need to ask her to share the shelf of the 50’s piece of furniture with another one that soon will be part of the family. She needs to stand to the side, because there is always room for another one.

Thanks for some more film photos. I have been waiting for them! All your photos, whether film or digital, are wonderful.
It’s interesting your views on the difference between Portra 160 and Portra 400. I also like Fujifilm Reala very much but they have discontinued it unfortunately. As well I make black and white photos using Ilford Delta 100. My little cameras are mainly the Olympus Trip and Holga 120N.

Oh thank you so much my lovely!! I know you like when I share! Well, I had to stop sharing on the other blog, because I couldn’t juggle everything, so now it’ll be here whatever I have to share, regarding film! And yes, it took me a while to send these rolls to be developed! But now that I have received them, I’ll be sharing more! And yes, I need to try more black and white! I never do it… so it’s on my list!
