Lisbon Stories :: O Cocho

Lisbon's Travel Guide by Claudia Casal // Hello Twiggs

**

Yesterday I had a meeting on a well-known street in Lisbon (where our Parliament is located), which is known for the amount of antiques shops, and a lot more. Whenever I pass by it I’m always driving, so this was a great opportunity to wander around on foot, take pictures, going in and out several shops.

And asides from stumbling upon really pretty things (check my Instagram!), I found a typical “grocery” shop, for which I fell in love, when I passed by on my way to the meeting. I knew that on my way back I would have to stop on this pretty place! And so I did, I stopped, went inside and just let myself travel to Alentejo, one of Portugal’s typical regions and also the largest. This so called grocery shop served food, coffee and typical cafe things, but you can also buy typical products from this region. And indeed all the products both reminded me that area and the older days!

I just couldn’t help myself and bought some bread and cheese, which are some of the very best in the whole country. And it’s so amazing when you buy really good bread! I chatted a bit with everyone, several customers went in and out, and the way they behaved, was exactly like those frequent customers, those neighbours, those neighbourhood folks, whose name we know and whose smile we’re used to. And whoever knows me, knows that I love these kind of things.

And so for those visiting the country, that are just visiting Lisbon, don’t forget to stop by this shop. This way you’ll have a little bit of another part of the country without leaving the city. You’ll have a hard time to choose what to take, yes, believe me you’ll want to take several things with you! For example, I absolutely died for these handmade baskets! Aren’t they just the sweetest? Another thing to my wish list!
