if you follow me on facebook, you may have noticed that i’ve joined instagram! well, it was about time! i hadn’t done it so far, just for the simple reason, i had a very simple phone and there was no obvious reason for me to upgrade for a new one. my phone was an old 25€ nokia, that has been working perfectly for the last three years. no camera, no nice music for ringtones, no nothing. i had a flash light and radio. and that was it. and it worked perfectly! nevertheless i’ve always thought about having an iphone. well, who doesn’t? they look so good and they seem to have so many nice things. but the price was still too high for me to dive into that trend! the truth is when you walk into a room, the amount of people with iphones is absolutely incredible! i shot an event last saturday and all i kept seeing was people with their iphones!
well, i had been thinking about upgrading my monthly plan with my phone company, to be better served in terms of business, so i checked the prices for the iphones with those monthly plans and ta-da… i was going to buy one! yes! and so i did this week! the other truth is that my old phone, though working perfectly was completely a wreck and i was feeling ashamed of it on meetings with clients. and this is not just an excuse to get a new phone. it was so ugly and unprofessional!
i was amazed by the new phone, but also a bit overwhelmed to be honest! these phones have so many things, so many apps, so many sounds, alerts, possibilities, that i guess my productivity on monday and a bit of tuesday was lower than the usual! at a point i was working on my laptop while answering messages on facebook via iphone! whaaaat? ok, this needs to stop! it’s fun, yes, it’s entertaining, yes, it’s overwhelming, yes! but is it great as they say? yes! it’s a beautiful phone, but i know that i’ll need to draw a line between the use of it, the fun of it and actually enjoy whatever i’m doing. remember this post about all the technology and the sharing hunger nowadays? yes, i can feel it even more now!
anyway for business is quite amazing! the email all the time, the etsy app for those who have etsy shops, the fact that as a wedding photographer i was going to buy a gps to find bride’s and groom’s houses, and now i don’t need one, the easiness with which i can take pictures of orders or something to share on facebook, the social networking which is always good (not that i felt the need for another one, but…)… endless possibilities right there on your hand. and it feels good to turn off the laptop after dinner and dive into the couch and procrastinate on the web with something small on my hand!
so far, i’ve joined instagram and loving it (so, so obvious!) and have installed a few apps, very basic ones to be honest, but there aren’t many i’ll need. so far i’ve already seen the amount of business related possibilities, and of course, sometimes i don’t feel like carrying the chunky camera, so having this on my pocket is perfect! and as i was expecting, i’ve already ordered an iphone case from my designs shop on society6, taking advantage of the free shipping week (yay!), so i cannot wait to see it with my own eyes!
so this was what i had to share today! seemed a bit stupid when i started writing it, like “so you bought a new phone! so what?!”, but i wanted to share a few thoughts on the technology part that makes us all closer, but sometimes makes us away from the real persons who are right there with us! and that for me is dangerous! anyway, you can follow me on instagram now! ah!

If you use the Google Reader, try Feedly. It’s much better looking, and a good alternative to Google Reader that will be closed next June.
If you don’t use it, try Feedly anyways ;)

I used to have a dual sim for quite a while, then I moved to Boston, but only end of 2011 I received a samsung galaxy S2 for Christmas and I was delighted, my favourite part is to keep track of the e-mails and use the photo as a camera when I don’t have mine around :)
I don’t use the instangram but post them directly to facebook
