happy holiday folks!!! and yes, we don’t stop here! how was halloween evening for all my american readers? i hope you had a great time going for trick or treat! here we had a delicious dinner, roasted chestnuts with moscatel wine, and then mr twiggs went out for a drink, i was to tired for that and ended up falling asleep on the couch, how romantic, right? oh well! moving on to a great friend of mine and also a sponsor of this blog, marianna jamadi.
i met marianna last year through the blog, as she contacted me to be a sponsor of the blog, to advertise her small shop – i am dorkas. we ended up writing several emails to each other, i let her know that we were going to new york for the holidays, she was thrilled because she lived in brooklyn so we could finally meet! then we actually ended up meeting before that, as she traveled to lisbon with her former boyfriend, so when we got to hang out in brooklyn, we all seemed like old friends! it’s so funny when these things happen! she’s incredibly talented and as she’s a mix of cultures, she has this exotic beauty that completes the overall look! she is now a sponsor through her photography website, as she’s dedicating herself fully to her photography business. she’s really sensitive and not mainstream at all. and that is exactly what makes me love her work so much!
as usual i asked marianna a few questions, so that you can know her a little better! and who knows if you are about to get married, why not ask marianna for a quote? she would be such a lovely presence and would create the memories of your special day in such a special way!
hello there! how are you feeling today? so, let’s pretend we never met, what can you tell us about yourself? i am a finnish/indonesian, california born, ny based, world bound artist. photography is my drug of choice. i believe life is all about experience and about documenting the journey. while i largely enjoy travel photography, i also enjoy taking pictures of both intimate & mundane moments. photography is all about moments. while i have taken a few photography classes, i am largely self taught and am always eager to learn more.
hum, very nice! when you think about your life and journey so far, what makes you proud? i have always followed my gut and my heart and my dreams are my most precious commodities.
do you know something… i will meet your best friend in a while… what could he/she say to me about you? that i always have something up my sleeve.
imagine that it is 1985… what are you doing? i would be 1 year old in 1985, so i would probably be snuggle up somewhere started to formulate my dreams.
in three words… can you describe me your work? fearless, evocative, evolving.
let’s say i love photography (so hard to imagine!) and end up on your website/blog… what do you think will make me book a session with you? if you like originality, creativity, and are interested in capturing moments rather than just faces, i am your girl!
what would be your next step as a business owner? i would like to work internationally.
if you think about your business, and your ups and downs, what do you think has worked for you in all these years you’ve been an entrepreneur? staying true to my vision.
who is your favorite photographer (dead or alive)? this one is easy. sally mann
asides from all her work and the way she beautifully captures light and those moments she mentions, i honestly love these two pictures above, the light on them is absolutely magical and it takes me to the reasons why i love winter, even if these were not taken in the winter. it makes me remind of how beautiful winter light is, though colder than summer light, but so magical, so soft and dim.
when i was reading marianna’s answers, i really loved when she talks about the way she captures life. her way of capturing those moments, it’s not just about faces, but what truly matters behind those faces. it’s the little gestures and emotions that surround your day or that moment. it’s all about what we feel for each other or about ourselves, and the way we show it to the world. marianna is the girl for that for sure.
and if you love new york, just as i do, you need to watch this video made by her for galo magazine. it’s a one hour lunch spent at a corner in new york. beautiful…
