hello lovely friends, how are you doing today? already making plans for the weekend? if you actually live in lisbon or if by any chance you are coming to lisbon this weekend, i have a very interesting suggestion for you! earlier this year i attended an event by simplesmente branco that was hosted on casa do alentejo. i was really excited to finally visit this place, as i had read about this place on a magazine and when i saw a picture of it i was amazed by the fact that that place existed in lisbon and 1) i had never heard of it and 2) it was completely out of anything i had seen in lisbon. when i attended the event i wasn’t able to take decent pictures of the whole place, just the room where the event was happening, but i came back later for a few pictures.
this place is situated on the same street as the coliseu, so i came from avenida da liberdade and couldn’t really resist taking pictures to the interesting architecture i found on the way. when you enter the street you can see this theater which is very well-known and very pretty inside as well, for those who were never here. and then on a very small door, almost unnoticed you find casa do alentejo. as you get in, you might think you got in the wrong door, because it seems you are in morocco, instead of anything slightly portuguese. but that’s when the charm begins.
casa do alentejo is a typical portuguese restaurant which features in particular food from alentejo. the look of this place is this extravagant and has nothing to do with alentejo itself, because in fact this is a 17th century moorish palace, which now became a restaurant. even if you don’t have any intentions whatsoever of having lunch or dinner there, it is worth the visit to explore the corners and to embrace all this exotic atmosphere.
these are the details of the bathrooms, which look like something else different, like you are inside of an european palace. i don’t know enough about history or architecture to explain this, and maybe someone can actually explain this to me, but what matters the most is that this is a charming place to visit, full of surprises and you will want to just sit down and appreciate everything you’re looking at.
i hope you have enjoyed this place and have felt enough curiosity to find it and to explore it! and if you are coming to lisbon on vacations, feel free to explore the humble city guide i’m organizing!
