two weeks ago i was happy to receive an invitation to be present on a press conference called “led’s go” by ikea to introduce the new generation of bulbs – the led. not that led bulbs are actually new, they have been around since the 60’s actually, but they didn’t fit most lamps we could have at home, and they were quite expensive for the average population. so ikea stepped in slowly since a few months ago introducing a few new led lamps by the PS Collection and now they present their project in a full shape, which is to change the world into less energy consumption, affordable led bulbs and they last a lot longer (about 20 years, so chances are you change lamps, not bulbs).
the event took place near our home, in CCB, and asides from the fact they wanted to let us know that ikea was introducing the led bulbs into their collections and that the stores will be fully lighted by led bulbs by 2016, they also wanted to share the partnership with like architects, who built a lighting installation with 1200 led bulbs presented on outside.
as we got in the press conference, we were given a led bulb to light the led’s go sign they had inside! kids were excited about this, of course! and then we listened a few words by ikea marketing manager, the like architects and the swedish ambassador, and watched some videos regarding what we produce in our homes and how we can start by saving in the energy consumption.
it felt a bit like christmas with all the bulbs and the fuss around lighting! patrik antoni, the one above, mentioned the kind of lighting they found all over the portuguese homes, which is usually a harsh light that serves all purposes, whether for reading, having dinner or even a bit of romance. and that made every one in the room laugh. and we laughed because we know it’s true.
since we moved to this new house, we started having small lamps around that are lit up most of the day, which is in the hallway and also the kitchen. it creates mood and this way i don’t have to be switching on lamps whenever i pass through these areas, but i was concerned about the energy consumption and now my issues no longer exist, because led bulbs are on the way to this house!
the like architects and swedish ambassador were the ones switching on the led bulbs on the installation and we were able to walk through the lamps, while the bulbs responded to the movement we were creating, though a bit confused in the beginning with so many people around! this installation will be present for at least two weeks, so go the museum of modern art here and take the chance of visiting this and experience yourself!
and you can also start changing your bulbs at home for these amazing ones that will last a lot longer and save you an average of 22% on your energy bill! we need an ikea trip for sure!
