hello there lovely ones, how are you doing? oh i just hope you’re having a brighter day than we’re having here in lisbon! it’s been raining all day long, and i think this will keep going for the rest of the week! but honestly, it’s on these days that i feel more fortunate to work from home. i love to just wake up, go out for a walk with mr kobe, come back, have a quiet breakfast on my office and start working listening to the rain outside! i absolutely love rainy days when i’m inside my home, it feels so comfortable, doesn’t it?
moving on to the topic today, i am introducing samantha hahn’s work as a commercial illustrator. i believe i found out about samantha’s work right when i started exploring flickr, about 3 years ago. i fell in love with her watercolour illustrations, the colours she used, the delicate traces of her drawings. some of her watercolour typography work is quite known around blogs and pinterest and chances are you have come across with her work before, not knowing who was the artist.
i adore these illustrations above! look at that alexander mcqueen pink shoe, what a masterpiece! and then the j. crew illustration, so beautiful with the little flower details magnificently reproduced on the dress. i think i basically love watercolour, for its watery impression. the way colour dilutes in the water and creates those effects are so precious. and that is what samantha says on her creativity tips:
“i love (…) the element of surprise in how the watercolour will react with the paper and the amount of water on my brush.”
she has been invited by daily candy to illustrate their website and she was inspired by the girls in new york. the images above are from that project and they seem so whimsical, modern and with such a great character, don’t they? i wish i was a girl in new york, right now (oh how i miss that city!). you can also catch up on her work, by following her popular blog – maquette, and also buy something from her shop! my favourite is definitely the notebook! so sturdy and poetic at the same time! i’m in need of more organization for my daily life, so who knows?!
