hello there lovely friends, how are you doing? did you have fun this weekend? i truly hope so! here we had such a sunny weekend, and though we are a bit far away from spring days, it’s wonderful to have these sunny, though very cold, days. it makes me wake up in a good mood, wanting to go outside taking long walks on the beach with mr kobe or in the fields we have near my in-laws home, where we usually spend our weekends! and because today we’re having again this sunny day, i want to finally start talking about brooklyn… and this may be a long post!
so for all of you that haven’t yet noticed, we got to spend most of the time in new york in my family’s house, which was in sleepy hollow. but as we wanted to spend a few days closer to new york, so that we could go out to dinner and grab a drink, we decided to rent a place. and when we started searching, we found out that the main reference for vacation rentals in new york is air bnb. so if you are thinking about going to new york, and don’t want to spend a lot of money in hotels, please, save some time for this website! and then my next advice to save some money is to rent a place in brooklyn. the curious thing is that most people with whom i talked to about this and renting a place in brooklyn, were very suspicious about brooklyn. and some of them even told us “whow, brooklyn? they had to pay me for that!”.
so let me tell you something about brooklyn! brooklyn is huge and just like so many other places, has its safe neighbourhoods and not that safe neighbourhoods! but that’s natural! there are certain neighbourhoods in lisbon where i don’t see myself renting a place to live either. and then we just got lucky! yes, lucky! because though we had friends in brooklyn, we searched and chose a place, according to the distance to manhattan. and taking the train, it would takes us 5 minutes to be in the city! and when we got to our place in brooklyn and started wandering around, getting to know the place, we were so surprised because we had chosen by luck the best place in brooklyn to be – williamsburg!
we were right next to the mccarren park, where there was always someone jogging or walking a dog, so we felt we were in a very friendly area. and we were! our apartment was inviting and modern, with a huge window in the living-room, where we were sleeping. and the view from the rooftop of the building was oh so lovely! just to think that we almost missed that view! manhattan was right there waiting for us from the 12th floor!
on the main streets of williamburg we found amazing stores and delicious restaurants and we decided again where we would live if we ever moved to new york, definitely williamsburg! we were able to find even more interesting stores by block than we found in the city, so we were really delighted and happy to be there! so, in order to mention just a few of those that really caught our attention, i’ll leave you with a list! so for shopping goodies for you or for friends you may visit red pearl, dijital fix, moon river chattel or the delicious mast brothers for some chocolate. for your home, please make sure you drop a visit on the future perfect. if you are in need of some new clothes, you can stop by brooklyn industries. and if you are feeling hungry in the end of the day, please please go to fornino for some pizza or to the two door tavern for some delicious meat! we actually ate our new year’s eve dinner in this last place, and the first and last dinner in brooklyn was in fornino! yes, it was that delicious! they have won several awards in the last few years, like “best pizza in new york city” and “best brick oven pizza in new york”! and as we love red wine, we tasted some california wine and we loved it!
of course we had to take a walk through the brooklyn bridge (how could we not?) and i loved it. though i had been in new york several times before, i had never visited brooklyn bridge and it was really nice. it was a shame that the sun was either shining or hidden behind some dark clouds, but we enjoyed the walk very much! i learned from mr twiggs about this tradition of leaving locks on bridges, as a symbol of love. he had seen that in germany before, and i saw it for the first time here! isn’t this just a sweet idea? and this is it for now, i hope to see you tomorrow for some close up on some stores i mentioned today!

belated good morning & such a very big thank you for the mostly sweet comment you left on my latest blog post.
There is currently very little time to be on line as our technician is here working in the winter garden [so that the windows get isolated and it stops reminding a… fridge when the temperatures out are below 0] but I had to pass by to personally thank you after reading your words.
As for Brooklyn, your tips are great & will be coming back to check out the links of the shops at some point. The place you stayed sounds just like what we’d choose to stay at, too!
Enjoy your day there! ~ it is a wonderful sunny day here (universe gods seems to be showing some mercy… makes working there much easier) I so wish the place was ready & the camera working in full power so that some good shots could be made.
Soon I hope… and in time with patience ; )
Take care Claudia, xoxo
