hello there my friends, how are you doing? how was your weekend? did you get to do some fun things and relax? i hope so! i will share a few things about mine later, ok? there is a lot to share! but for now, i want to share my love for one lady photographer… one of my favourites. how can i describe this lady? well, what i love the most about her work is the light. as any other photographer, managing light is one of the most important things. for all of us, i think, light is something we adore and seek to do our best with it… we fell for light and the way we work with it, might be one of the things that distinguishes our work from the other photographers. and though i seem to be drawn to light colours and play along with vibrant and smoother tones… i always seem to love those who work with low light and make it seem magical all the time. catherine does this… as i told her once… it is like rain is always peeking, but never shows up. she is different from many photographers whose work i see around. she takes herself out of her comfort zone. her name is catherine giroux and she comes from quebec, canada.
hello catherine, how are you? tell me something about you that does not involve photography… a little bit of your story, perhaps? hi!! i’m doing good! i’m a 30 years-old mother of 2 little men, i live in montreal, quebec and besides taking pictures, i’m also a graphic designer for over 10 years now.
what made you grab a camera? and what do you feel with your camera on your hands? as i was pregnant of my second son, i decided to buy a decent camera, so i could document memories of my family. it only took me a single «click» to know that there was something going on. holding a camera makes me feel good, it’s simple as that… being able to freeze magical moments, and make something interesting to look at is something i’m proud of.
you are one of the photographers that inspire me the most, because of your relationship with light… i feel it as a magical light, like if rain was going to fall, in a beautiful lazy afternoon, or like the sun is disappearing in a second. what inspires you to produce this feeling in your images? wow! first thank you, i’m very flattered… hum about the light… you know i think that taking pictures everyday really helped my eye to recognize something that will add a magical feel to the images. as i’m writing down this, the sun is now low. in my office, the way the light is coming in, only a small part of my book shelve is illuminated and trust me i’m this close to grab my camera and click it… couple of years ago, i would not even had noticed it. so to be very honest i just think that my eyes got used to the kind of light that you find in my images… plus i always (well most of the time) schedule my sessions at a specific moment of the day which is at the golden hour…
where do you seek for inspiration? blog, magazines, but above all i would say movies! i love to analyze the photography direction of motion pictures and try to reproduce it in my work.
if i could ask you for your biggest challenge so far you would say… probably the fact that i got out of my comfort zone… took the risk to quit my regular job as a graphic designer and became my own boss in a totally new job.
and your biggest conquest… there are two things: as a photographer, i wanna keep learning from peopIe all around the world. open my eyes to new stuff in order to stay unique. i would also love to work on a film set. as a mom and self-employee, i want to be able to manage my time better and spend more time with my family.
and as a photographer, who inspires you? kids! only them are able to show their real personality without the fear of being judged.
so, did you already know catherine giroux? this is one of the photographers i would love to assist on a photo session and editing part that follows, because she really inspires me into this golden hour, low-light times of the day. and of course, when she says that one of her conquests as a self-employee is searching for some time management techniques, so that she can spend more time with her family… i can relate with her in this wish as well! you can explore her {blog}, where you will find more and more about her photo sessions, and you can also find catherine on {facebook} and {twitter}!
