hello hello! how are you my friends? well, today is one of those days in which we all feel a bit sad, because someone that was really a genius of our time, has passed away. i do not own a single apple product, but that does not mean that i don’t want to. i simply could not afford so far… and i tend to buy things that i really need. so far, i would really need {this}… but even so, i recognize steve jobs as one of this century geniuses and someone that represents strength and courage to follow his dreams! with this on our minds, let’s move on to today’s topic… advertising and lovely artists, who also strive to follow their dreams. and today i want to introduce to you mable tan, the lady behind {happee monkee}, a fine art shop.
hello there! how are you feeling today? tell me… who are you? hello claudia, i’m feeling excellent. my name is mable tan and i’m the photographer of {happee monkee photography}. also writer, food blogger, traveller and wife to mr. g (!)
quite a busy life there! well… now the first real question… what are you proud of? kicking off the fear and doubt shackles to open a shop on etsy. mr. g has been encouraging me to do something more active with my photography for years now and it’s finally bear fruit. every day working on the shop and photos, i’m feeling more purposeful and alive.
do you know something… i will meet your best friend in a while… what could he/she say to me about you? ahha… i’d actually text my bestie. but i’m too embarrassed to tell you ‘cos it’s way too nice. i’ll give you the short version instead, “life is not as fun without mable.”
imagine that it is 1985… what are you doing? hmmm… probably digging for worms. dad used to go fishing and my siblings and i would look for earthworms in the garden. i used to be a tom boy. i would pretend my dog, lucky, was a horse and spent hours looking at ants’ nest. iI love nature and spent a lot of my time in the garden, sitting under the mango tree.
in three words… can you describe me your photography work? daydreamy. adventurous. happy!
let’s say i love fine art prints and end up on your shop… what do you think will make me buy from you? i love to day dream (from my mango tree days) and i used to dream of traveling all over the world, seeing strange and interesting places. lo and behold, it’s actually happened. i would say my photos are avenues for you to visualize those travels – see amazing sights, go on an adventure, meet interesting people… so you can say, i don’t sell prints. i sell dreams.
what would be your next step as a photographer? who knows? i have all sorts of ideas. a book. a gallery exhibition. but i also find best thing to do is to let the universe/god show me the way. like what i say on my foodblog, i’m ‘exploring life one step at a time.’
what is your favorite photographer? i have to say yann arthus-bertrand. i also love beatric peltre of la tartine gourmande. such inspirational, beautiful, happy photography. i love art that is positive. and that’s my intention, if i can make one person smile every day through my photos, then my purpose in this life is fulfilled.
indeed the word daydream is perfect for mable’s work! the colours she uses, the travel photography she shares… makes us dream and travel, without even leaving our home. you can visit her etsy shop {here} + {website} + {facebook} + {twitter}!
