hello lovely friends, how are you doing today? i am afraid that i didn’t start this day that well, because since yesterday afternoon, this “lovely” headache has been with me… until now. and though i might be a courageous girl in many things, when it comes to pain, i am just a little girl! i hate it… i feel really bad… it really gets me! and as i think these come due to the lack of enough sleeping hours, i get even more upset when i actually sleep a decent number of hours, and when i wake up… the lousy pain is still there! i just feel like “i have slept already! what more do you want from me?!”
well, but let’s move on, because today is thursday and i have news for you, tomorrow will be a lovely day, oh and today will be a lovely evening here in lisbon, because it is “vogue fashion’s night out”, and shops all over downtown are open until midnight! how cool is this? and we are going there to check the mood! but before that, let me introduce the new sponsor for {a place for twiggs}! she is this adorable lady, born and raised in mexico city, but now lives in the states… she loves to cook, she is a photographer & designer. she has long hair and a sweet smile. her name is karla diaz cano and she is the blogger behind {sal & azucar}… in english {salt & sugar}. a blog about food & photography.
hello there! how are you feeling today? tell me… who are you? hi! my name is karla diaz cano. i am a photographer + designer. i focus on fine art photography and food photography. a few months ago i opened my etsy shop {tidbits photography}. also, i own and run a small jewelry business {tiklari}, which has an {etsy shop} on etsy as well.
hum, that is very interesting! two shops, photography & jewelry! may i ask you what are you proud of? following my dream. it may sound a bit cliche, but many people don’t always follow theirs. it’s been years since i wanted to explore food styling + photography but didn’t really know how to go about it, so it was always a “someday i’d love to do that”. then one day i decided it was time. i figured – i have a strong photography background, so why not self-teach myself the food side of it? so that is exactly what i’ve been doing!
do you know something… i will meet your best friend in a while… what could he/she say to me about you? i think she would say i’m very creative and entrepreneurial, always coming up with new ideas. she always supports me and cheers me on. i’m honored to say that when she needs some kind of creative advice, she often turns to me, so that is a good sign, right?!
imagine that it is 1985… what are you doing? i’m probably sleeping… i was 1 in 1985.
in three words… can you describe me your blog? colorful, fresh and delicious.
let’s say i love blogs and end up on your blog… what do you think will make me keep reading your blog? yummy photos and easy recipes! because let’s be honest, who doesn’t love food? i try to post easy recipes and try to remain casual with the look of the photos, which goes great with the simple, handmade feel of {sal & azucar}.
what would be your next step as a blogger? promoting my blog and connecting with other bloggers. as of now, i hadn’t felt ready to show it to the world, but now i am very excited to do so and connect with others through it!
what is your favorite blog? i don’t think i can name only one – there are so many awesome ones out there! i love {canelle et vanille}, {la tartine gourmande}, {decor8}, {heartmade} & {design sponge}.
well, from what you can see here, with no doubt karla is an excellent food photographer and her recipes are actually simple, just like she says. food photography is also something i would like to be better at. but as i love to cook, but then i am not that good in following every step and things end up a little different, i am not sure that food photography will be that easy for me. but who knows? i know that i can learn from karla, because as every good food photo, asides from the food, details are everything. and the way the spoons present themselves, small flowers or herbs… tablecloths.. patterns and textures matching with each other… that is what makes a food photo work. i hope you can add {sal & azucar} in your blog roll, if you are into food photography and delicious recipes to follow! and let me tell you in advanmce a little secret we have been working on… karla will be contributing for {a place for twiggs} on a monthly basis, with delicious recipes, so stay tuned for more yummy food & photos!
