… the golden hour. i love sunset light… as much as sunrise. but as you may imagine, and have shared this so many times here and twitter, i am more of a night owl, than an early bird. not that i lay in bed until noon, but i much rather go to bed at 3 or 4am…and get up about 5 or 6 hours later! i am used to that schedule! so, today i wanted to share my love for the golden hour… the magic light i find in some nature details, those details i think that we photographers are much more sensitive to. and asides from this, also share a story about yesterday’s engagement session, that didn’t go exactly as we thought it would.
so yesterday i had an engagement session with a couple and i thought it would be a good idea to take the photos in the tropical garden near my house. i have been there several times with my camera on my own, and there was no problem at all. however when the couple arrived, and the man from the ticket office saw that she was bringing a change of clothes on a bag, he immediately said we couldn’t get in. we had to ask for a permit and pay for it, that is how things worked with ceremonies, weddings, baptisms… we tried to explain that was not the case, we just wanted to visit the garden and take some pictures, as everyone else did actually! why did it have to be different from all those laying on the grass reading books, or us laying on the grass taking pictures? he said it was forbidden to take pictures inside the park.
the whole situation got worse when the said explicitly that tourists taking pictures inside the garden were different than us… now that was insulting and i asked for the complaint book, which he refused to hand it over. now that is illegal, so that just made us more upset. we started calling the police and a few minutes later he handed the book, saying that he would write on the book after us! now, if there is one thing i really cannot handle with and makes me a very nervous person is ignorance. it does not have anything to do with literacy, but ignorant people that talk non-stop without even listening to what others have to say, nor explain things as they should be explained, insult us and act like if we were just kids trying to pull his leg… now that is outrageous!
we ended up leaving the tropical garden and headed to the public park in front to make the photo session! all went well, and we ended the day eating the famous pastries from belem, of which i talked about {here}! i had two! i am still new to these things, i know now that this is something very common unfortunately… one things is everyone’s right to be or not exposed in a photo, one other thing is taking pictures in a private property for commercial use, or without permission. but this was outrageous. it is plain as this “if you want to take pictures of the park/architecture/whatever/museum garden you can… be my guest! but if you are taking these pictures but featuring someone else and if you look slightly professional, than we want your money!” it is plain unfairness to me! oh by the way, these were the pictures taken inside the tropical garden before the couple arrived. as you can see, no one even bothered me when i was taking these.

Mas que aventura!
Espero no entanto que a sessão no outro jardim tenha corrido bem e que o casal de noivos goste das fotos.
E já agora, adoro as fotos que tiraste antes. :)
