hello there my friends, how are you? thank you again for your lovely comments yesterday about my return! you are always so sweet! and yes, i feel much better and encouraged to take a few steps forward to boost my business! more news later! now, i just wanted to tell you that the {local markets} edition has been absent for two weeks, because sometimes it is quite hard to match everyone’s schedules, in order to have an interview ready to be published! but this is project to keep going, because i love it that much! and i know that you love it too! well, today we do not have a special guest, but several guests! for you that do not live here, i shall explain the meaning of the title. the {mundo mix} market is a multicultural event that was born in brazil in 1994. by 2003 arrived in portugal and has ever since been present in several cities in our country, gathering alternative artists, showcasing new trends and ideas in the world of design, art, music and fashion. though i was never able to visit other events outside lisbon, my favourite one happening in lisbon is the one in may in the castle. and of course, i was there this year as well. here are a few images of what was happening there this weekend… sweet cats included!
these were some of the images possible. sometimes i am not that good to myself when i am working, because this time i completely forgot to bring my business cards, and carrying a camera in these kind of places might be a problem for some. first because people always question themselves about the purpose of the photos, second because i always meet someone really afraid about their ideas being stolen by someone… the one taking pictures, for example. and though i might understand that, and accept that someone might tell me that i cannot take pictures… there are ways to say this without being rude. obviously, i am saying this because i met someone that was not that nice to me. not on purpose, i know. her work was lovely and i recognized its quality right away… but people can always smile and be nice, even when saying “no, thank you”. did i told this girl the purpose of the photos? no, i just asked if i could take a picture. and as the answer was a bit negative to begin with… i kept myself silent and walked away, feeling a bit annoyed… with her and myself, for not explaining what i wanted the pictures for. so, after this, i also felt encouraged to become more self-confident and accept that i can make something nice for others, by sharing their work through my lens. so from now on, i will always introduce myself and let others know what i do. i think that better results might come from this! tomorrow i shall bring you more about the castle itself! stay tuned!
ps. are you a fan of the {local markets} fan page on facebook? come on, join me in this artistic adventure!

Even though they’re not a lot they’re great. I do know how to put your soul in your work. Here’s a suggestion, I’ve just remembered whem I was driving to the office today – because Serra de Sintra was cloudy and with that misterious look, and I think you’d have loved it – why not thinking about some photography courses? Like a tour around Lisbon? And another on how to work the photos on PS or any other software?? Count on me to be your first student!

I know what that’s like.
People are very afraid that someone is always out there ready to steal their ideas. You probably will be more successful if you explain what you do before you ask to take the picture.
I have some very unpopular thoughts about this climate that seems to be a part of the contemporary crafts movement in Portugal and around the world. I recognize that there are instances in we can really say with certainty that someone else work is a copy of yours, but often that is not the case.
It seems that we forget that we are not alone and blind in the world, we do not live in a vacuum. We all may be influenced by the same images we see across the web and the streets. I have had some times to quit some ideas because some one else had put them to work about the same time I was developing them.
So, what I’m saying is that we have to be more open to the fact that there are no original ideas out there, we all derive our ideas from somewhere and, as such, there may be to works that are similar to ours.
Of course I’ll be mad when that happens to me, it will be my gut reaction, but I’ll calm down and see if it is actually a copy, if it’s worth talking to the person or pursuing other venues and if not, try to see it as a compliment on my work and move on.

The first (and only) time I went to a craft show I hardly took any pictures at all because I was too shy to ask…but most of the people are really ok with it when I finally got the guts to ask!
