hello there friends, how are you feeling? did you have fun this weekend? i sure did… we hada very pleasant summer days, so we had a good time on the beach, not in bikini, but still was quite good. mr kobe finally made friends with mr zaire and they played like they were the same age… and mr zaire is now 6, so he had to play along with the kid! moving on, today i have another brilliant photographer… with some very creative work. certainly a different concept. one i admire. her name is {debbie carlos}.
“how it all started… i have enjoyed making art since i was young. i dabbled in photography as a teenager, and really loved it, but had to pack up my camera during college to study psychology. during the last semester of my senior year, i took a photography class and was hooked again. after getting my first degree in psychology, i went back to school to study photography.”
“what do i wish to accomplish… i think beauty is important. not the kind of beauty that is ugly or confrontational but simple, and sometimes strange; beauty that comes out of the little moments in everyday life. it’s good to just look around and feel pleasure from not needing anything other than what’s around you. this is what i’d like to convey with my work.”
“about challenges… i, like everyone else, get into ruts and hit creative blocks. sometimes we just need to change things up. do something else for a little while and come back to what we were working on with fresh eyes. it’s always good to do different things, and to feel like you are regularly challenged. it keeps the mind active.”
“where do i seek for inspiration… i love looking through old books for strange visual references. i love looking at art, especially self-taught art. a few of my favorite photographers are uta barth, rinko kawauchi, william eggleston, and sally mann. i also am very lucky to be friends with many talented people who inspire me all the time.
what do you wish to do next… i don’t know. i think i’m just going to wing it!
what does it mean for me… it means i have to be open to anything, which is a good way to be.”
when i look into debbie’s work, i see someone brave, someone bold… because she seeks for beauty in different things in her daily routines… in what is around her. that was what caught my eyes in the very first time i saw debbie’s work. i saw someone standing out in the crowd with extra-large prints, different perspectives, colours and details. i saw somenone standing out in her living room hanbging her really huge prints with her hands. i saw creativity. i hope you can take the time to browse more about debbie’s work and why not go through her {tumblr}, {food blog} or {website}? and of course… browse through her {etsy shop} as well… see you in a while!
