hello sweet friends, how are you feeling? how was your weekend? oh i had one lovely weekend, we traveled really early last friday to mr twiggs hometown, which is on seaside, and… oh summer days! he went surfing all afternoon and i got to spend a few hours in the sun with mr kobe. saturday we had dinner right on the beach with some friends, and we were delighted with mr kobe’s behaviour, because he was quiet and sleeping under our chairs all night. so, today we are starting a new week and we will start with a lady i wanted to bring a long time ago. the lady is cori kindred. do you know her work? oh you should…
as usual, i invited cori to talk about her work… and she was kind enough to open her heart for us to get to know her story a little bit better.
“i was a photographer for yearbook and the school paper in middle and high school, and i majored in photography in college, but i feel like my rebirth into photography happened when i discovered polaroid, and especially when i was given my dear sx-70 land camera (which i gave a little {makeover}…) something about looking through the viewfinder, figuring out the perfect composition, pushing the button and hearing the “click-whir”, being able to hold that white frame in my hand until slowly it turns into something magical. plus i’ve found that nothing adds a certain mood to a photo better than instant film.”
“a few years later when polaroid announced they were going to stop making film and focus on digital cameras my heart seriously broke a little. that a company started by such an innovative man could now be so out of touch with their customers was so sad. thank goodness for {the impossible project}, they’re making amazing progress and are giving thousands of instant film fans hope.”
“moving to portland, oregon (from the midwest) has been the most inspirational thing i could have done for my photography. it’s the most colorful, beautiful, encouraging, constantly evolving, creative place i’ve ever lived and i fall in love with something new here every day. plus the landscape is gorgeous year-round!”
“if i had to verbalize the goal of my photography it would probably be to preserve an exquisite moment and to share the moment with like-minded people who appreciate the beauty of simplicity and stillness.”
i can imagine what cori means when she mentions the moment in which she was offered a sx-70 camera, because after exploring my vintage yashica i am falling deeply in love with analogue photography. and i would love to try this sx-70… maybe mr twiggs would like to do something about it (8 months to go my love!). you can browse through cori kindred’s work on her {etsy shop}… sneak-peek her {flickr} and of course… also browse through her {website}. it will be worth it.
