hello sweet friends… ah, how are you? i am finally back from a delicious short vacation (yes, i am aware that i am unemployed, so technically i don’t have vacation, still… i love the word!) and it was really good! well, to begin with… we had two days of rain and cloudy skies… not good, if you have the sea right there next to you and you are embracing a long weekend away from everything. but then the sun finally came out and we had fabulous summer days! and yesterday when we returned lisbon we went to see an amazing concert of {patrick watson}. oh can i be in love with that man’s voice? well, moving on before tears appear… today is {local markets} tuesday and we shall have one talented lady that i found a few weeks ago and also fell in love with. she is one amazing photographer with an exquisite taste… her name is {catarina zimbarra}.
can you tell us something about yourself? i’m a mother of a baby girl, photographer and passionate about life and its challenges. i’m a dedicated person who doesn’t want less then perfection. i like to be challenged. i don’t like repeating moments in my life as in my work: elegant, feminine, natural and modern.
how did {catarina zimbarra} start? i never thought about being a wedding photographer. i loved photographing cities, the urban environment and sometimes people. and suddenly, it is now almost seven years, is what i love most. people. feelings. complicity. emotions. it was at a friend’s wedding where i discovered that i could capture more than the traditional images of that day. “feet” dancing, some intimate looks or a hidden laughter. i threw myself at a time when there wasn’t creative photographers with my kind of attitude and against traditional at all. so i embraced this new passion. the wedding came as a challenge, a new purpose and a willingness to reinvent special moments that were so common and uncharacteristic. after that it came the children and families. again, there’s was a lot of studio photographers and i wanted to offer the natural portrait, spontaneous moments with a contemporary twist.
what inspires you? love, life, my baby girl, my family and all the colors around babies, children, natural smiles and moments. i know it sounds a common place but definitely {love} is the word for inspiration.
what advice can you give for those small business owners in our country? be true to yourself and your passion. be true to the things you believe and the the kind of photography you link. don’t try to copy any style. try to find your own and everything will came out naturally. work with pleasure because that’s the only way to give the best. another advice is to be good at one area, not trying to be ok at several. i think it’s not possible.
what do you think would be helpful for those small business owners in our country? i think my previous answer could adjust to this one. starting a business with love and passion is always a good thing. besides that, work hard, finding your style and never stop learning. i’m always learning something new everyday and always finding more ways to grow and giving others my best.
what do you think? swoon… i never thought of getting married, as you probably know already, but these… i could consider just to have these on the wall. catarina has a very sensitive eye, with no doubt whatsoever… she looks for emotions… feelings, romance… and beautiful surroundings, natural ones to embrace those that trusted her for a few moments. this weekend i was just talking with a friend over her wedding photographers, and it is such an expensive bill to pay, but you do need to choose carefully because having 300 photos of common portraits of all your guests… well, you could have someone that asides from the beauty you already have on this day, also captures that beauty and make it into visual memories for you. you can explore more of catarina’s work on her {website}, read her {blog} and join her on {facebook}.
