hello there fellow friends, how are you doing today? did your week start in a good way? i am still embracing the role of mummy to a delicious baby dog, so i am a bit more absent from what goes online, but it has been delightful… and so rewarding! the look in his eyes… the tenderness of his face… and kisses when he sees us… oh, how can we resist? we can’t and we don’t want to resist. well, moving on to our main topic of today, this is {local markets} day, so i shall introduce a fabulous artist from portugal. her name is ana and her world is joyful & colourful. she chose {pinknounou} as her brand.
“pinknounou is a urban crafts site – a mix between handmade, illustration and design. here you will find unique handmade soft toys – cats, foxes, rabbits, dogs,… and other dangerous animals! – baby and children accessories, bags, pouches, mobiles… and so much more! made with lots of colors, lots of love, great fabrics, colorful felts and fun illustrations.”
ana shared with us some points of view about working like this in portugal, and also talked a bit about her & her work. let’s meet her?
can you tell us something about yourself? my name is ana, i’m 35 years old, i was born in mozambique but i live in Portugal since iwas very little. i live in Lisbon with my 3 year old daughter and my husband. i have a degree in graphic design and in the moment i’m fully dedicated to my passion, crafts and children illustration. i love chocolat, fabrics, sleeping, portuguese bread, travelling, children’s books, drawing, colors, cats, crafts, ribbons, patterns, my daughter’s drawings, the sea…
how did {pinknounou} start? it was born from my desire to make things with my hands, i think i inherited from my father, he used to make beautiful things in wood (many years ago i also made some things in wood, inspired by his work and also by the beautiful african pieces of wood he had). and my mother has always made things with fabrics, although for many years i had quite an “aversion” to the sewing machine! the work i was doing as a graphic designer wasn’t fulfilling me, i needed to do something more creative, so i started sewing only by hand… and then i made more, and more, experimented a lot and i realised i was totally in love by this kind of work.
what inspires you? everything… colors, colors, colors, shapes, patterns, beauty and creativity in all their forms (natural or created) are mostly the things that inspire me and also make me very happy.
what advice can you give for those small business owners in our country? try, try, try, work, work, work, work, don’t give up, it’s not easy but its worth it.
what do you think would be helpful for small business owners in our country? a (big) space where small business owners could work and show/sell their work.
