… no job at all. it has happened. this huge economical crisis we have been facing in these last two years has unfortunately crossed my very personal path and left me without a job. seven months ago i changed from a very well-know consulting firm to a very small company. it was a needed change. my mental balance was screaming for it. and in the beginning of summer an opportunity came to me and i took it without looking back, because from what i knew… this was something i had to do, and it felt so right. for seven months i adjusted to a new routine, new colleagues and also to a new budget, a tight budget (yes, i am one of those that truly believes that money must not be the most important thing in our lives!). i learned new things, i started to feel happy with my job again… i was in a much healthier environment with no doubt. but then… last week there were news. news about this firm. it was closing its doors. which left me unemployed… since yesterday.
so, these were the big news!
what am i going to do? well, make a plan. i need a strategy. and no, i am not sad. there was nothing i could do. this has already happened, so let’s face it and react to it! let’s roll up our sleeves and make something good about it! i am actually feeling a little bit excited about this… almost like “what will happen now? what new things will happen in my life?”
… and the first move will be something very bureaucratic, manage all paper work in order to receive an unemployment subsidy. then… just then i will be able to make further plans. but let me tell you that i have already a bunch of new and thrilling ideas! actually the first one has already taken off! you will see about that in the next post!
for now, i just wanted to share with you this news, because this will mean a whole different routine for me from now on! it is curious because not long ago i read somewhere that loosing a job was felt with almost the same impact as loosing someone very important in your life or divorce. and as a psychologist i can understand this. however, due to all these creative things i was already doing and more plans i had already on my mind, this situation has not been felt as a terrible thing. or maybe i am still not there yet.
what would you do if you lost your job today?

I wish you good luck Claudia! I agree that loosing a job could not be a terrible thing when you have started something by your own and have plans to improve that project…I wouldn’t be sad either if I lost my job today… it would be the opportunity i think for work my enterpreneur side…but with 4 children, this would be risky.

Ok, let’s think about it in a more functional way!
No job, means no health insurance in our country, as you and I know – so, first start looking for some information about private health insurances!
Next, think about what you can do: photograph, blog, marketing, design, and a lot of other things too (I don’t know you that well yet!).
Have you ever thought about taking photos to other crafters stuff? There is always someone who doesn’t know enough of photography or doesn’t have the time to take the best pictures to their own work, and needs them to increase their sales – you’re able to do that!
Now – What would I do?! I’m always complaining about my work. I’m in payment card industry business (a bit boring indeed), but what I really like is to sew, and knit and take long walks by the beach… Since I have 2 kids plus 2 stepkids to take care, it would be very difficult to keep up with the expenses that we have nowadays. Altough, I believe we would definitely have to change some habits, and I would sew madly in order to sell more :)
I hope your plans work!

Well sorry about your job lose, but it sounds like you have a good positive out look. My fiance was out of work for 18 months. He is now back to work, but he did enjoy being home and he kept busy. I currently have three jobs, (I know thats a little crazy), but I’m thinking hard about letting one go. I haven’t liked this job from the start any way, and I just got an increase of hours on my other job. It would also give me more creative time seeing I don’t have much now, as well as not posting as much as I’d like to on my Blog. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Hi there, I’m from Singapore and a new reader of your lovely blog. I’m sorry to know about this piece of news. Well it happened… however, it might be a blessing in disguise. Good things might be coming along. I saw your new Etsy shop and I think it’s a really good time for you to concentrate on it. It’s a joy to be able to choose something you like to do. Best of luck for you girl! ;)

If you ask me, you’ve got the best possible attitude to the whole thing. If I lost my job today (luckily I’m a freelance translator, so I cant really lose my job, but I can end up having hardly any work which would make me think about having to look for sth new), I’d use all my extra time to learn more about photography, take more photos and spend more time working on my etsy shop. or more importantly – I’d spent it all (=the time) on friends and family! :) Good luck to you, I’m sure things will work it in the best possible way!!! hugs, Mateja
