hello there friends, how was your weekend? was it a good one? i truly hope so! i have some news, but i think i might have to share them later! so after a busy week having the insight of several well-known photographers, we shall have another lady to share her thoughts on photography. if you are not a photographer, or perhaps i shall say this in a different way… if you have one hobby that you really love, you are able to spend countless hours doing those things you love, you are aware that those hobbies are born from something in particular that happened in your life. maybe someone gave you a camera, maybe you became a mother, or you found yourself unemployed… but there is always one important moment in which something changes us forever. let’s hear amy’s story. who’s {amy}?
amy is the sweet lady behind {pretty life photography}. and i have invited her to talk about her photography. just because i admire her work pretty much! everything has this certain and very characteristic mood that i find very warming and peaceful, and with a very strong character!
“well, when did it start? it really started with the birth of my first child. i remember wanting to document everything
about my young family. i had a little kodak camera at that time and was constantly filling those little cartridges of film with family photos, running the filled cartridges in for developing. and anticipating the day i could go pick up my prints! when my trusty little Kodak broke down, i went to a better minolta 35mm and man i loved that camera!”
“around the time my second son was born, i took a little part time job working in a custom color photo lab/photography studio. sitting at a machine looking at customers photos one at a time, tweaking colors and exposure if necessary, with the push of a button, too much cyan called for a little more yellow, too much green add a little magenta and so on. i loved working there… it was around this time that the idea of digital photography was starting to show up with expensive computer editing software and programs becoming available, it was an exciting time in photography! today that little independent pro lab i once worked for is a health and spice shop… it never did keep up with the digital photography rage.”
“these days, i have two dslrs, a nikon d40x and a canon 50d with 50mm lens. i like them both with a little nod towards my nikon. when i look back at all of the photographs i have ever taken, some of my favorites of all were shot with my first digital fuji point and shoot. equipment/gear just does not matter. i am not a professional photographer, i guess i am not even really sure what that means? i just love taking photographs. and learning all that i can about using my camera well and i still have so much more to learn. i really love the editing part of digital photography too and look forward to playing with my pictures using actions and textures.”
“i have worked as a book cover designer & and a few of those have been published, with more to come in the future and that always excites me! i have thought that someday, i might like to take the leap and advertise myself out and have a few clients, but i am fearful that my love for photography would be lessened by the pressure of all of that business stuff and i also don’t think that that factor alone makes you a professional. i find that when i am at my most emotional, my creativity spikes and i have to do something with it and if the photograph touches others i am even more overjoyed. photography that comes from somewhere deep within the artist stirs and inspires me. i adore the great old street photographers of the 1920’s-50’s they were brilliant! man oh man! what they did back then with the equipment they had? i stand in awe! inspirational with a capital i!”
“through websites, flickr, and facebook, i have met amazing photographers online, and so many of them rival the “professionals” we see and hear about. i have learned from them and they have become great inspiration and friends. thank you for having me here twiggs! i was completely honored to be invited! xo!”
and now i must thank amy for being a guest today. this {sneak-peek} edition was born a few months ago, and my intention was just to give you a slight sneak-peek into something i admired… or someone. i chose blogs, photography & handmade work, because i love to explore new blogs… find out more about other photographers like myself and… share the handmade value that is all over the world. but i could not help myself in contacting all the {guests} for a personal point of view. i hope you enjoy these features, as much as i do! you can find amy’s work {here}, read her words {here} and follow her around {here}!
